Thursday is a TEST NIGHT. Youth orange through blue test candidates should be lined up, ready to go at 5:00 SHARP. Adults and Youth Advanced at 6:00 p.m.
No classes will meet Thursday so be sure to get in that extra class Wednesday or Saturday if you are not testing.

See you at the dojang!

5 Tips to Achieving Your Blackbelt
- We are what we do daily. Training for Black Belt is all the time; not just in the dojang.
- Sparring, and tournaments in general, has very little to do with your ability to defend yourself in real life. Don’t confuse sport with the real world self defense skills on the blackbelt test.
- *Cliche Alert* If you lie down with dogs, you’ll wake up with flees. The people you hang out with GREATLY effect your ability to reach your goals. Choose your friends carefully!
- Network with people with similar goals. This is the real reason why we do see many tournament competitors make it to black belt. It’s not because they are great at the game of sparring (which we do NOT test on despite having national medalists train at our dojang). It’s that they meet lots of people with similar goals and this reinforces their decision to go after the goal of black belt. The best way to use tip #4 though is…
- Bring a friend to class! If you miss, they will never let you hear the end of it. If they are struggling, you will push them to make it. Having a friend who trains with you is the best insurance policy for you hitting your goal!
Bonus Tip: (because that’s just how we roll)
KEEP A TRAINING JOURNAL. If it’s worth doing, it’s worth writing down. I have seen a good Taekwondo notebook be the factor that separated students by literally YEARS in their preparation for black belt. Every new technique should be carefully recorded IN YOUR OWN WORDS. Another student’s notes or a handout from the instructor will not have the same effect as writing them down yourself.
Good Luck and Tough Training!
